Sarah Hammond

ArtSpokes is run by its enthusaistic and experienced Artist/Director, Sarah Hammond, who works with professional freelance artists to deliver Artspokes' projects.  Sarah set up ArtSpokes in 2012 having run community and school art projects for over 20 years as a self-employed person. She has completed various large public art commissions and is very experienced in working across several art forms.  For the last seven years Sarah has organised art projects for young people in Whitechapel and is recognised for the work she has done in the area.  Sarah has a good understanding of the issues facing young people and families in East London. She has run outreach with parents and families teaching basic literacy with art to help overcome some of these issues.

Sarah trained as a painter at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, followed by postgraduate study at the Royal Academy Schools. She has a City and Guilds Teaching Certificate.  Sarah developed Creative ICT, inspired by a very effective project funded by TFL (Transport for London) in summer 2011 involving graphics, bikes and computers.  Creative ICT was successfully piloted in two primary schools and is now being promoted in primary schools as a core ArtSpokes project.
