ArtSpokes is run by its enthusaistic and experienced Artist/Director, Sarah Hammond, who works with professional freelance artists to deliver Artspokes' projects. Sarah set up ArtSpokes in 2012 having run community and school art projects for over 20 years as a self-employed person. She has completed various large public art commissions and is very experienced in working across several art forms. For the last seven years Sarah has organised art projects for young people in Whitechapel and is recognised for the work she has done in the area. Sarah has a good understanding of the issues facing young people and families in East London. She has run outreach with parents and families teaching basic literacy with art to help overcome some of these issues.
Sarah trained as a painter at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, followed by postgraduate study at the Royal Academy Schools. She has a City and Guilds Teaching Certificate. Sarah developed Creative ICT, inspired by a very effective project funded by TFL (Transport for London) in summer 2011 involving graphics, bikes and computers. Creative ICT was successfully piloted in two primary schools and is now being promoted in primary schools as a core ArtSpokes project.
ArtSpokes has the undinting support and wisdom of Marg Behrman, ArtSpokes Associate Member. Marg is on the ArtSpokes committee and has been involved in ArtSpokes from its inception. She is an invaluable contributor of ideas as well as providing a sounding board and lending encouraging support.
Marg has lived and worked in East London for over thirty years and has been employed locally in a front line capacity by community based voluntary organisations and by the NHS. She has a very good knowledge and understanding of the area and a strong commitment to supporting people to work together to have a greater say over their lives.
She has been actively involved for many years in campaigns relating to peace, human rights and environmental issues.
ArtSpokes works with:
Greg Hall Writer / Director. Greg has produced three award winning feature films which have screened through out Europe and received critical acclaim. As a film maker he has run workshops across the UK, working with at risk youth including pupil referall units, and also worked in Berlin and Mexico City with young film makers. Greg works with ArtSpokes as a freelance film maker.
Julian is ArtSpokes business advisor and mentor. He gives ArtSpokes invaluable support and provides sound and perceptive advise. He became involved with ArtSpokes in 2012 through working as a BITC (Business in the Community) mentor. Julian also builds websites and mobile marketing solutions for SMEs. Previously he worked for Barclays Bank for 30 years, the last fifteen of which, in Group Treasury as a Financial Analyst.
