Seven artists took part in Banana Bytes with Sarah from ArtSpokes. They were central to the project, adding imagination, skills and creativity. Each contributed their own personality and speciality to the mix which became Banana Bytes. Several of the artists have a commitment to making ’art for all’ in the tradition of William Morris.
Charlotte, Children’s Book Designer, DK Books did the layout and design of Bygrove Primary School's engaging recipe book, 10 Easy and Healthy Recipes. She also visited the school and talked to the children about the life of a book designer. Charlotte came to the launch of the recipe book at Banana Bytes Spring Festival event. Her contribution to Banana Bytes was much appreciated.
Banana Bytes was very fortunate in also having the help of two volunteers on Japan Day and at the Spring Festival. Noriko Michigami is a local painter and printmaker. Noriko taught the children at Marner Shine School origami and they made lots of colourful origami fruits and veg, cauliflowers, aubergines, carrots, oranges, melons, grapes and even red hot chillies. The children enjoyed meeting Noriko.
Yukari combines community-based, sustainable design with business to bring about social innovation and now works in Tokyo. When we met Yukari she was visiting St Andrews Health Centre as part of her MA course at Royal College of Art. Yukari shared with Marner children her knowledge of Japanese calligraphy taught to her by her grandmother. The children loved writing their names in Japanese.
